Journal: Shopping Haul๏ปฟ

Hey y’all!

I went shopping this weekend with my mom and got some great items! Old Navy had 30% off a few things and I stopped by Nordstrom Rack for the jewelry. ๐Ÿ˜ I’m in love with the ring ๐Ÿ’ I was able to find a few matching Nadri pieces to finally create a set. For her designs you really have to hunt them down  and look carefully in store if you want a set! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Journal: My Comicย

Hello everyone~

I mentioned awhile back that I put my comic story on hold while I am still doing a job search and potentially going back to school in the future.  ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m thinking of going into nursing school, I just have to save up for it. If I never find the time to continue I would at least like to show off some snippets of what I had.

This collection is a jumble of concept art, actual cover art, and a rough of a comic page. I currently only have  maybe 13 individual pages done and have been going at a page a week. So far I’m behind 6 pages, that’s 6 weeks! I hope to continue soon but I’ve been super stressed from work… I’m too tired to think or draw and focus on my art when I get home or catch a break.

Fashion and Style: Outfit Planning

Hello everyone~

My boss is always mentioning that I should raid her closet and help her coordinate an outfit for work. With several years of fashion retail experience under my belt, I know my way around personal styling a tad. Although my coworker and I have our eyes gleaming at the thought of dressing up our boss together at her house, we know she is just kidding, although that won’t stop me from giving you these tips! ๐Ÿ˜€

Tip 1:

Always think about what accessories or individual pieces would go with what you already own in your closet. It will keep you mindful of what may or may not go together. For example, owning a skirt you may never wear as no tops you own look good, or go with it, that will lead to the skirt eventually being donated. Don’t waste your money and be mindful! Also, don’t waste money purchasing an entire outfit around 1 item, unless it already has some value to fit with the rest of your wardrobe.

Tip 2:

Run  you ides by a loved one! It’s always best to run anything you want to purchase with a second opinion. Hopefully someone close to you, as they will know your preferences, your style, and whether you already own something, just like the item you interested in, to prevent you from buying it, I’m looking at you sis!๐Ÿ˜ˆ You can also ask for stylistic help from the sales personnel,  I know from the company I worked at we had to keep up to date on trends and fashion styles to assist our clients. Depending on which company or brand you go to, the workers should be able to assist you stylistically. ๐Ÿ˜€

Tip 3:

Outfit planning is a technique I learned at work. What we did is create and coordinate outfits on our mannequins and displays on the sales floor and fitting rooms. It helped inspire customers to purchase items and coordinate similarly to the display or purchase the entire display off the mannequins. What I’m trying to say is, pre-plan your outfits. Try out you outfit idea on a hanger; top with a sweater together on a hanger, with a scarf wrapped around too, maybe hang a necklace above the top on the hanger. If you can see your outfit in front of you, you’ll be able to see what works together to coordinate or mix and match an outfit. I usually pre-plan outfits for an entire week after finishing the laundry. It helps since I’m usually short on time in the mornings before work. If all my outfits are ready, it gives me piece of mind as all i need to do next is make up and jewelry and I’m out the door like lightning.

Good luck and don’t forget to strike a magnificent pose and slay!๐Ÿ˜˜

Cheap Sticker Making DIY

When I was a kid, we didn’t have sticker paper where you get to make your own from a printer. That stuff doesn’t come cheap, and for a 6 year old girl with a creative mind, and a need for more sailor moon stickers in her life. She did what she does best, get crafty, with a little bit of mess, I was 6!

So here is my tutorial to make your own do-it-yourself stickers! You’ll have fun with the kids on this and it should cost you little to nothing if you already have the supplies in your home.

My Pin Making Adventure/Disaster.

If you are an artist trying to sell your art, you have probably tried to make some DIY shrinky dink pins! If you haven’t yet, please learn from my mistakes and do a trial batch you are willing to scrap later.

I have seen so many artists online making their own pins but rarely do I see a tutorial showing the road bumps or disasters I’ve gone through to make them. I’ve been trying (and failing) to make my own handmade pins for awhile now. The issue was that my ink would always bleed on my pins after applying a coating to waterproof the pin.

Shopping Haul

Hey guys!

I went shopping last weekend and I thought it would be nice to share with y’all what I got. I wasn’t originally planning to go out since I’m trying to keep up my savings but my sis needed a few things and the shopaholic in me took over at the end to buy just one item, even though it’s not for me. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

My sis tried on all the shoes I asked her to and I must say those black Report shoes are too cute! She ended up buying these in store at Nordstrom Rack and a nude pair online.

While my sis was trying on more shoes I walked over to the handbag section with my mom and found these cute mini bags.

We got hungry and ate at Gordon Birsch and I had a mani mahi sandwich with sweet potato fries and a slice of my mom’s veggie pizza from her plate.

Last but not least, the item I bought that wasn’t for me. My boss asked me to buy a plant buddy for his office so I found an about $20 artificial one at Home Goods. My boss can’t grow a thing as he is a newbie so artificial is best, plus this looks super real! He said if he doesn’t pay me back, and he hasn’t yet, I can keep or return it. ๐Ÿ˜— I’ve gotten so many compliments already on it just after a day so I may just keep it at my station!

Journal: Oops, My bad!

Hi all!

I almost forgot I had this blog, and quite literally went through the process of purchasing a new domain with WordPress…. how completely embarrassing! I thought this site had expired after I cancelled my card last year and I thought that deleted this site permanently. Oops? I thought couldn’t get it back after that, but I checked back after receiving a birthday e-mail… Voila! I’m back, just without all the premium content since I’m still getting a refund for my other purchased site thatdorkymuslimgirl.com. I am so sorry! Sorry if you’ve missed me, I just couldn’t afford this site right out of college, until I got my Full Time job and I needed to create a small savings. My job is still on the rocks even after a year sad to say, but I miss blogging and I’m glad wordpress let’s people keep a free domain! I’ve deleted the other site (only 1 week old too) today because I really did miss this one, but I kept the posts I wrote on there to be posted here later(only 2 haha).

So Let’s play catch up shall we?

After I graduated University it was imperative for me to find a Full Time job since I wasn’t springing any luck in my animation field. My parents convinced me right after I graduated University to go to a community college and take a few classes to hold me off and keep learning until I found a “stable job” besides my part-time retail job which I absolutely hated at the time. Burnt out and desperate, I was applying everywhere for the animation and graphic design industry but nothing would bite, until a friend and my sister came to me with job offers.

One for Explosom from on old classmate that became a Producer, the creators of Cynaide and Happiness, the other my sister’s banking company that was hiring full time tellers. I got the interview for both, but I only passed the teller interview.

After I finished a year at community college learning interior design (lots of fun, I really recommend it if you can afford the licensing exam!) I quite after the semester ended, once I got hired at the bank center full time with 2 other new tellers. The culture and environment was fun and new, but I also made my very first (and only) mistake within my 2nd week of training at a training branch. It caused anxiety that I may loose my job for the entire year, until my yearly review came out and I passed. The rest of my scores were all really high, so that one mistake got washed out. Thank God! My job is still on the rocks sadly since there are still layoffs going on since I stated working, so I’ve been applying everywhere just to get out, and so have my other coworkers. Through it all, I have certainly grown up more thanks to this job.

Since desperation is a good motivator, I’ve been trying to learn new things online. ย I put my personal project of writing and drawing my comic Fragment on hold, once again (did you forget I am an artist?). Anything that could potentially land me my next, hopefully stable and secure, full time job, I made a priority. I’ve researched more marketing, site optimization (which lead me to try that new blog site, haha…), copy and content writing, and I’ve attended several online webinars and workshops to help me potentially start selling my handmade crafts online but with hopefully better results than I ever started out with.

So with as with my current life’s journey, I don’t know where I’m headed, but I’m going to keep my chin up and keep moving forward! Something good will come along, God willing.

Good Luck to you all!

How to Ace that Interview

Hello all!

I know I have left this site with a long hiatus, but I’m back with an important post! ๐Ÿ™‚

Recently, I have done a few interviews as I adjust my life and try to follow a new career path to financially support myself. I have done many interviews so far, from phone interviews to meeting in person. Some interviews were quite extensive, and I didn’t get the job on those but I learned a lot! So in hopes that you will ace your own interview, here is advice I pulled from friends, family, and my own experiences:

Importance of Networking in School

Hello Loves! ๐Ÿ˜€

Today is the first day of school for almost everyone here in the states ( I’m the exception, mine starts NEXT Monday, Ha! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). So here comes a little advice I learned during my years as an Undergraduate, and something every one of my professors tried to knock into the heads of their students: Network with your friends and outside your social circle as much as possible!

A College or University is a breeding ground for potential.

Once, a very treasured professor of mine said this to my class:

“Everyone, your fellow students, and professors are there to help in the advancement of your future and of their own. An asset to one other that many forget, and fail to recognize unless someone points it out to them. To put it simply, to help you get a job at any point and time, you must network with your friends, even acquaintances! They will be your way in to any potential place.Use that to your advantage.”

Journal: Haul

Hi everyone~

After a full week of being miserable from a cold, I am finally off antibiotics and feeling much better aside from some minor sniffles and coughing. As proof of feeling better I made a few parfaits for my family, though everyone ate them before I could take some pretty pictures, ha! ๐Ÿ™‚

This week was filled with shopping, as it was tax free weekend here in Texas. So throughout the week, before the weekend, we see sales everywhere here! I also got a few online shopping shipments in this past week. ๐Ÿ˜€ I even got my Vitamin C Serum, which I will write a review on later, compared to another serum I have, by next week. Without further ado, here is my haul from shopping since ย July 31st, to receiving packages today. FYI the beauty box is my sister’s but we share ๐Ÿ™‚ With all this, do you think I’m ready for college in a few weeks? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Continue reading
